Taltsy

Taltsy is a large open air museum and park (67 hectares) situated 47 km south of Irkutsk on the way to Lake Baikal. It is worth stopping off here on your way to Lake Baikal if you can. The museum and park houses a unique collection of traditional Siberian buildings from the 1700s onwards. A visit to the museum provides a great insight to how people have lived in the Baikal region for more than three hundred years. On special occasions and during the summer months folk dance shows, folk music festivals and other cultural gatherings are often arranged. The museum and park are a popular excursion for those living in Irkutsk and it is not unusual to see a wedding party during the summers months being photographed among the beautiful wooden buildings.
