Walk on the green side in Hong Kong

With 40 percent of its land area made up of green, rolling hills, Hong Kong is by no means short of hiking options. Hikers are recommended to not only focus on physical fitness but to learn about the territory's biological richness and unique history. Chan is the project general manager of Live Nature Eco Tour, a social enterprise under the Sai Kung District Community Centre.

"It is not a speed competition," Chan said. "What is important is the close interaction with the environment and reflecting on how to protect it."

Last weekend, Chinachem Charity Walk took place. A large number of hikers met at Tai Tam Country Park. Participants had a choice of two routes, depending on physical ability. Volunteers stationed along the route explained the cultural heritage, historic water works and ecological features of the area.
