Information about Morocco!

The Kingdom of Morocco is the westernmost country in North Africa. Strategically situated with both Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines, but with a rugged mountainous interior, it stayed independent for centuries while developing a rich culture blended from Arab, Berber, European and African influences. The Moroccan coastline, which fronts onto both the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, offers plenty of great beaches as well as a number of fascinating old coastal cities.

The population is around 33 million people. The official language is Arabic. Moroccans speak a dialect of Arabic called "Darija". French is also widely spoken, specifically in large cities and business settings. Morocco is a beautiful country with a rich history and diverse culture.

At one time, Morocco was incorporated as a part of the Roman Empire. Reflective of this, there are impressive ruins, especially at Volubilis, just one half hour´s drive from Rabat. By the 7th century AD. the Islamic Empire began to expand into Moroccan territory. During the Al-Andalus period (8-15th Century) fantastic centres of learning and religious monuments were established throughout the country; most significantly, Al-Karaouine in Fez, one of the oldest universities in the world.
