Studying Russian language either in Russia, Ukraine or Latvia gives you the opportunity to develop your language skills and explore one of the world’s most fascinating regions. We give guidance and information on courses so these suit you. The language institutes also offer the opportunity to take part in tempting excursion and sightseeing programmes providing you with extra opportunities to get to know the country and culture. Moscow and St Petersburg are by far the largest cities. This, however, does not necessarily mean that the best educational facilities are found here. There is a lot to explore in the smaller cities.

Moscow | Study Russian in summer!
Moscow

Moscow is Russia´s spiritual and political centre for more than 850 years. Nowhere are Russia´s contrasts more apparent than here - ancient monasteries and ultra-modern monoliths stand side by side and disparities in wealth between the ´new´ and the ´old´ Russians are very apparent.

St Petersburg | Study Russian in summer!
St Petersburg

St Petersburg has been dubbed the Venice of the North for its palace-lined waterways. It was Peter the Great´s desire to make Russia a European power that led to the founding of St Petersburg. It became a cosmopolitan city with a royal court of famed splendor. These monarchs commissioned great series of palaces, government buildings and churches, which turned it into one of Europe´s grandest capitals. The city remains today Russia´s art and cultural capital.

Nizhny Novgorod | Study Russian in summer!
Nizhny Novgorod

It is enough to look out over the rivers Volga and Oka to appreciate the city´s fantastic position. The Russian chronicles say that Nizhny Novgorod was founded by Prince Yuri in 1221. The excellent location of the town, on the confluence of two great rivers predetermined the main roles of the new town: to protect against invaders and to become a centre of trade.

Petrozavodsk | Study Russian in summer!
Petrozavodsk

Petrozavodsk is a small, beautiful, tranquil city located near to Lake Onega and is easily reached by train from Moscow or St Petersburg. Close to the city are Russia´s largest lakes - Ladoga and Onega, which are definitely worth seeing, as are the beautiful monasteries that are located nearby to the city.

City tours of Petrozavodsk and excursions to smaller Karelian towns, such as Sortavala, Sheltozero and Kondopoga can be organized. An hour´s boat trip from Petrozavodsk lies Kizhi Island - a fantastic open-air museum. A trip to Kizhi Island is a must for anyone visiting Petrozavodsk. Two or three-day trips to Moscow and St Petersburg are also both interesting and exciting.

Vladivostok | Study Russian in summer!
Vladivostok

Where Russia meets the Pacific Ocean, China, Korea and Japan. The city is located on a range of hills, which on one side borders the Pacific Ocean and the other forests. The beautiful and varied landscape in and around the city provides many opportunities for interesting sightseeing. Vladivostok is located not far from the Chinese border and is also within easy reach of Korea and Japan. Its proximity to other Asian cultures is reflected in its own very diverse culture.

Novosibirsk | Study Russian in summer!
Novosibirsk

Lies in the heart of Siberia. Akademgorodok is the Russian equivalent of ´Silicon Valley´. Lately the place of scientists is partly taken by businessmen and programmers.

Kazan | Study Russian in summer!
Kazan

The capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. Kazan has over 77 different ethnic groups. Kazan is the capital of a multi-national republic that occupies the area between the Volga and the Ural Mountains. The original settlement of Kazan, lying on the left bank of the Volga river, was founded in the 13th century by the Khan of the Golden Horde known as Kazan-Khan The current day city of Kazan is one of the most important cultural and industrial centres in Russia.

Irkutsk | Study Russian in summer!
Irkutsk

Irkutsk is a very friendly and interesting city lying near the world’s deepest lake, Lake Baikal. Outside your study time there are endless opportunities to explore the city, the surrounding Siberian countryside as well of course Lake Baikal itself. Irkutsk became known as the Paris of Siberia. In contrast to most other Russian cities many beautifully decorated wooden buildings remain in the city.

Taltsy is a large open air museum and park situated 47 km south of Irkutsk on the way to Lake Baikal. It is worth stopping off here on your way to Lake Baikal if you can. The museum and park houses a unique collection of traditional Siberian buildings from the 1700s onwards. Lake Baikal,”the blue eye of Siberia”, is one of the world’s most beautiful, old and deep lakes. The water in the lake is crystal clear and you can in some places see up to a depth of 40 metres.

The Capital of Ukraine. Kiev is built on hills overlooking the Dnepr River, in the north central part of the country. Travelling to this city might actually be one of the most pleasurable trips you make. The art and architecture of Kiev are considered to be world treasures. The Cathedral of St Sophia, where the princes of Kiev were crowned in the years of Kiev´s grandeur, houses outstanding mosaics and frescoes dating back to the 11th century.

Odessa

Pearl of the Black Sea. Odessa boasts a fantastic climate, long beaches and beautiful natural environment on the edge of the Black Sea! There are a large number of restaurants and cafés to try out. The food on offer is tasty and fresh and if you like then you can enjoy a good glass of Ukrainian wine or a tasty Ukrainian pastry. You can easily take advantage of the many excursions on offer to the coast, Crimea or indeed Kiev.

Riga | Study Russian in summer!
Riga

On the Baltic Sea coast, founded in 1201. There are lots of opportunities to explore the city and its surroundings and for those who love culture and nature, everything is within reach; the sea with its beautiful beaches, forests, rapids, castles and other cultural sites. During the autumn and winter you will find it very comfortable to sink into a cozy chair in one of the city´s many cafés.
